Discover The Variety Of USA River Cruises
USA river cruises are the easy way to start your experience of cruising the great waterways of the world, and they can show you some of the sights of this vast country from a unique vantage point. If you really want to start slowly, you can just take a short one hour river trip along the banks of a major city, and then build up from there. The USA can offer cruises of virtually any length or size, and trips to suit every budget from single figures to multiple thousands.
The simplest of river trips within the United States are the short city trips which operate along the rivers of major metropolitan areas. Some of these take only an hour or less to get round a short stretch of the river and deliver a commentary on the local sights. There are even some river taxis in Chicago which offer trips for a single dollar price. Most of the trips around New York and Chicago last for two or three hours, which is long enough to allow for a comfortable ride around the city sights, including some time to eat and drink. Evening trips tend to be more relaxed, and to allow more time for dining.
When you are ready to move up to the next level, you can take a trip which goes out of the city into the rural landscape. One of the most popular places to take such a trip is along the Mississippi, and this will allow you to see several different states, some period properties, sites of historical importance, and a rural landscape which has changed little in hundreds of years. The area has seen some of the lowest moments in the history of the nation, with slavery followed by Civil War, but it has also given birth to fresh styles of music which have endured until today.
The cheapest USA river cruises are obviously on boats which have little more than the bare essentials, but these can still give a perfectly satisfying trip. Comfort and luxury are scarcely needed for short trips, but there are still wide open windows through which the tourist sights can still be seen. As you move up to the next level of cruising, you start to find catering being laid on, along with facilities in which you can really relax. At the high end of the market the facilities are in line with what you would expect from one of the major hotels, and of course the prices have to reflect that.
It is also possible to have a boat all to yourself and your own group, as you can hire one along with the attendant crew. This is not cheap, of course, but the actual expense will depend on the size of the vessel and how many other facilities you need. There are river boats which can take up to twelve people, and these can be hired relatively cheaply for a small but intimate occasion. Hiring boats which can cater for hundreds of people will be far more expensive, but the expense can be shared amongst far more people.
Most of the smaller USA river cruises do not need to be booked in advance, and you can just turn up and pay on the boat itself. A few of the city trips have a ticketing system to try to save on time and make sure everything runs to schedule, but the booths are always next to the mooring position symptoms the process is still easy. Large trips such as Mississippi cruises may need advance booking, especially during the peak summer months. There is rarely a shortage of places on USA river cruises.
